Ask Questions > WINFY

I facilitated the WINFY activity this past Wednesday and had some questions. The functional groups, even though asked to be specific, didn't provide specific enough requests. That led to the spokespersons having to be more specific when talking to the other spokespersons which took up A LOT of time. If they didn't do this, I think most of the responses would have been "not enough information" instead of "yes" or "no" or "we will try". Would love to get other's input on this with an advance thanks.

Hello Mary, I will send this to your email as well. Apologies for slowness. One result of WINFY is for everyone to discover their requests can be sharpened. To put a sharper point on vague requests, I use “huh?” in place of “we will try.” It is more lovingly provocative. Admire your dive into WINFY. It is not the easiest of LS. One additional choice is to restart WINFY when you start to discover vague requests. “Please go back into your groups and sharpen your requests. Your leaders will get better answers!” Helpful?

I am attempting WINFY for the first time with a small group of managers: 8 people, 4 functions. This is part of an annual management retreat. My question is, can I make the "specific goal" of the structuring invitation less specific? For example: "What I need from you to do my part in ensuring the success of our company is...." Or "What I need from you to do my part in living the mission and values of our company is...." Second question: what do you do when the answer is "no"? Thanks in advance for any insights!
